چکیده

Following his initial presentation, he required an exploratory laparotomy, gastric oversew, and transverse colon repair, but was still known to have multiple remaining intra-abdominal pellets (Figure 1). He had no previous urological history, but urinalysis on admission revealed microscopic hematuria. Renal function was normal, but his C-reactive protein was increased at 38 mg/L (normal value <10 mg/L). A non-contrast computed tomography revealed one pellet had migrated into the left ureter causing ureteral obstruction and hydronephrosis (Figure 1). Initial management involved decompression of an infected system with a percutaneous nephrostomy followed by an antegrade pyle-

BACKGROUND Ureteral injuries are considered to be uncommon in cases of trauma. The possibility of damage to the ureters may not be considered in the setting of acute trauma when life-threatening injuries take clinical management priority. A case of acute ureteral injury is described in a patient with acute penetrating gunshot abdominal injury that had a delay in diagnosis, with a review of the ...

Taking the STING Out of Ureteral Obstruction

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is diagnosed in ∼1% of children. The main goal of treatment is preservation of renal function by preventing recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) refractory to antibiotic therapy. Surgical treatment options include endoscopic injection or ureteral reimplantation. Subureteral Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene) injection (STING) is an endoscopic treatment option no lon...

Bilateral shotgun pellet pulmonary emboli.

Intravascular migration of bullets and other foreign bodies is a rare but known complication of penetrating trauma. Missile embolization can represent a diagnostic challenge because it may present in various and unexpected ways. We present the case of a 54-year-old female who sustained shotgun pellet emboli to the pulmonary arteries following a left upper extremity gunshot wound and related vas...

Robotic-Assisted Repair of Iatrogenic Ureteral Ligation Following Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Ureteral injuries, while rare, do occur during gynecologic procedures. The expansion of laparoscopic and robotic pelvic surgical procedures increases the risk of ureteral injury from these procedures and suggests a role for minimally invasive approaches to the delayed repair of ureteral injuries. We present, to our knowledge, the first case of delayed robotic-assisted ...
